Lund, Sweden – Manje Health AB has signed a contract with the government of Ghana through the national insurance company SIC Life to digitalize the country’s medical ecosystem.
At the initial stage, the partnership entails bringing Ghana’s over 200 public, private and non-profit hospitals and clinics on the Manje digital platform to simplify access to quality healthcare for Ghanaians home and abroad, at the same time leveraging the country’s unique position as a medical tourism destination in the West African region.
Specifically, the agreement will enable the launch of a health insurance product through the Manje platform, targeting millions of Ghanaians in the diaspora, for the benefit of their loved ones back home.
The Managing Director of SIC Life, Kwaku Appiah-Minkah II, expressed his appreciation to the Embassy of Ghana for identifying a unique opportunity which will inure to the mutual benefit of SIC Life and Manje Health. He further stated that this partnership was expected to bring a lot of relief to Ghanaians in the diaspora in taking care of their loved ones back home and offers a new frontier to reach the over 3million Ghanaians in the diaspora, extending the perimeters of inclusive finance and social inclusion at the same time.
And the CEO of Manje Health, Prudence Mafuta Persson stated that “Ghanaians abroad send $3B home annually. This is out of pocket and the funds are a life-line for millions of people to cover medical expenses among other needs and making Ghana the 2nd largest diaspora market in Sub-Saharan Africa, it’s a great deal for any business that is serious about scale”.
The signing of the partnership agreement on 27th October 2023 in Accra, was witnessed by the Ambassador of Ghana to Denmark and Sweden, H.E. Mrs. Sylvia Naa Adaawa Annoh and the Honorary Consul of Sweden to Ghana, Mrs. Nickie Akosah.
In parallel, Manje Health has recently closed a new investment round to strengthen the technology, with Minc Fast Track Capitall III joining SmiLe Inject on Manje’s cap table.
