Both SmiLe companies at the top in NLSDays pitch competition

Yesterday Gedea Biotech tied for first place and Akuru Pharma came in second in the “Startup Challenge” pitch competition at NLSDays, the largest Nordic partnering conference dedicated to the life sciences. This is the second consecutive year that SmiLe companies won top places in the competition.

Yesterday the 12 best Nordic startup companies, selected in May by an expert jury, each gave a live two-minute pitch, with no slides for support, in front of the investors and industry representatives in the audience. A jury challenged each company and the audience then voted for the companies that gave the most convincing performance about the benefits of their product or service, and how their companies would make money from it.

Results in the competition:

Tied for first place:
Gedea Biotech from Lund and
Sigrid Therapeutics from Stockholm

Second place:
Akuru Pharma from Lund.

“At the final we had to pitch in front of an audience of life science investors. This is the perfect target group for us, since we want to raise capital at the beginning of next year. The victory generates considerable interest in Gedea and our treatment for vaginal infections. The prize was the opportunity to participate at NLSDays next year, which is a perfect fit for our development plan. We are also proud that Akuru Pharma, our incubator buddies from SmiLe, won a prize,” says Annette Säfholm, CEO of Gedea Biotech.

The following Nordic startup companies in fields such as pharmaceuticals, medtech, diagnostics and e-health competed in the “Startup Challenge @ NLSDays 2018” yesterday evening in Stockholm: Akuru Pharma, Bioreperia, Game Intelligence, Gedea Biotech, Letsip, Lipum, MediTuner, Operationskollen, Quantum Leap Computing Labs. Sigrid Therapeutics, Stayble Therapeutics, Tirmed Pharma.
