Health2B goes virtual

The fifth round of Health2B, the accelerator for very early companies in medtech and eHealth held by SmiLe Incubator, is now starting. Eight weeks with a packed schedule awaits the eight start-up companies accepted by the program, part of which has been digitized.

“New this year is that SmiLe has initiated digitization of a large part of the accelerator program. This enables companies that are far away to follow the program remotely and to streamline their other work. In addition, the opportunity to more easily benefit from SmiLe’s offerings in the long term may entice attractive new companies to the region,” says Ebba Fåhraeus, CEO of SmiLe Incubator in Lund.

Companies from all over the world applied for the eight openings. The accelerator focuses on helping the entrepreneurs to test and verify their business ideas. They receive strategic coaching with a focus on the customer. They get to meet colleagues who have taken or are taking the same journey with their innovations, fine-tune their business pitch and gain knowledge about investor expectations. Large parts of the program are based on the Lean Forward model, on validating and testing assumptions in relation to the existing market.

“Companies usually develop tremendously during these months and several of them are later adopted in our incubator for continued support from SmiLe,” says Ebba Fåhraeus.

In the online portion, the companies receive the fundamental knowledge they need, which becomes a basis for receiving more specific support through direct contact with SmiLe’s coaches and experts.

Some segments address the value of meeting in person or carrying out practical tasks. That is why the participants are on site at SmiLe for three of the eight weeks, during which time they will have access to test beds through the Didec project in Perstorp Municipality.

A Demo Day on November 20 will end the accelerator program, when participants will present their companies to a jury consisting of investors and industry representatives. Afterwards, all of the accelerator companies will belong to SmiLe’s Health2B alumni network.

The following companies have been admitted to the accelerator:

  • Samtala – Digital health solution for mental health, Sofia Allberg, Sweden.
  • Dsruptive Subdermals – Gather health data via a chip under the skin, Patric Lanhed, Sweden.
