Nordic Rebalance launches product that relieves symptoms of IBS and ulcerative colitis

SmiLe company Nordic Rebalance is launching its product Refermin on November 5. Refermin is a fermented oat drink that contains beneficial fermentation products and health-promoting bacteria. The drink has been shown to have a clinical effect and relieves symptoms of IBS and ulcerative colitis. Refermin is sold online at www.refermin.se.

Refermin is based on the findings of extensive research and development by Hans Israelsson, founder of the company Nordic Rebalance AB. The product is a clinically documented nutritional drink for treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and ulcerative colitis, diseases that are difficult to treat. The findings from studies are reported in two published articles.

“Hans Israelsson focuses his research on adding fermentation products in addition to probiotics, beneficial bacteria, to restore the balance of gastrointestinal bacterial flora. The fermentation products affect the intestinal environment and help to restore balance in IBS and ulcerative colitis. These substances can be found in Refermin, which consists of our specially fermented oat solution,” says Henrik Billing, CEO of Nordic Rebalance.

The treatment will be classified as “Food for Special Medical Purposes” (FSMP). Such food is intended for people with various diseases or disorders that require a special diet.

Nordic Rebalance has also developed an app, MyRefermin, which customers can use to log how they feel every day, and see how the trend changes over time in easy-to-read graphs.

Refermin, each package contains:

  • 250 billion lactic acid bacteria
  • short-chain fatty acids, which provide energy to the intestinal cells
  • dietary fiber, including betaglucans
  • lecithin, which can help protect the barrier function of the intestine, thereby reducing the permeability of the intestinal mucosa. Increased intestinal permeability can result in dangerous substances entering the bloodstream.

The production process involves fermentation and the addition of the lactic acid bacteria Lactobacillus plantarum 299v. In addition to beneficial bacteria, water, oat flour, malt flour from barley and soy lecithin are used in the process.
