SmiLe is proud to announce that Saveggy has been selected as one of six finalists in the Brilliant Innovator competition. The competition is arranged by Brilliant Minds Foundation and is aimed at promising, European startups with a long-term, global future-shaping potential.

Saveggy focuses on developing plant-based edible food coatings to extend the shelf-life of fruits and vegetables and replace plastic packaging. The technology, which has the potential to revolutionize the food and packaging industry, has attracted a lot of attention and the company is getting ready to launch the first Saveggy-protected cucumbers next year together with large retailers such as Lidl and ICA.

The selected Brilliant Innovator finalists get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to present their ideas live on stage in a 5-minute pitch to some of the world’s most inspiring and influential leaders in Stockholm.

“We are extremely excited to see one of our companies as a finalist in this prestigious competition. Saveggy’s solution is truly sustainable in eliminating the need for plastic and reducing food waste. It is a brilliant example of the positive societal impact the innovations of our FoodTech companies can have”, says Ebba Fåhraeus, CEO of SmiLe Incubator.

“This is a very proud moment for the whole Saveggy team. To be selected as a Brilliant Innovator finalist is a tribute to our work and proves that we are on the right track in our ambition to reduce waste and contribute to a more sustainable society", says Vahid Sohrabpour, Founder and CEO of Saveggy.

Brilliant Minds was established in 2015 by serial entrepreneur Ash Pournouri and Spotify founder CEO Daniel Ek. The aim of the Brilliant Minds Foundation is to support European founders with transformative ideas that make the world more sustainable, creative, and collaborative. Amongst the speakers at this year’s Brilliant Minds conference in Stockholm are actor Edward Norton, NBA star Draymond Green, Nobel Peace Prize winner and activist Malala Yousafzai and astronaut Christer Fuglesang.
