SmiLe Incubator chosen by EU organization to help European startups

SmiLe Incubator is the only Scandinavian incubator that the EU organization EIT Health has chosen to participate in its Bridgehead program. A total of about 20 accelerators, mentor organizations, will provide expert support for startup companies to help them gain access to markets faster. The first company that is coming to SmiLe is Mode Sensors, a Norwegian eHealth company.

This year EIT Health launched the Bridgehead program, which will help the most promising European startup companies in health that need assistance with internationalization to accelerate their introduction to the market in Europe.

To accomplish this, EIT Health designated about 20 accelerators – incubators and other support organizations – that offer various types of expert services. SmiLe is the only incubator from Scandinavia.

Ten European startup companies have been chosen and will be offered help in the first round. They will receive EUR 25,000–30,000 each to spend on services from the accelerators.

“EIT Health became aware of SmiLe after seeing the successes of SmiLe companies Gedea Biotech, Sinntaxis and Receptor Pharma at the EIT competitions last year. They recognized the quality of the companies that come from here, which is why we were asked if we would like to be an accelerator. The mission involves supporting companies in their growth journey through special initiatives where the companies themselves have chosen the skills they need. We see this as an exciting opportunity to hone our advisory skills and to develop our network in order to create opportunities for our own community of companies,” says Ebba Fåhraeus, CEO of SmiLe Incubator.

The Norwegian eHealth company Mode Sensors AS will come to SmiLe for a few days to receive on-site mentoring. They are working on developing sensors found in devices like smartphones for diagnostic purposes.
