Successful companies graduate from SmiLe Incubator

Yesterday a graduation party was held for the six companies that left the SmiLe life science incubator in 2019 and are now continuing their growth journey on their own. The companies will still be part of the SmiLe community and can choose to participate in SmiLe’s alumni program. SAGA Diagnostics, Speximo, Open Logger, in2cure, Cellevate and Bionamic have been growing at SmiLe for several years – through access to expert advisory panels, trainings, laboratory facilities and instruments, as well as exposure to international investors and the industry.

This year’s graduating companies have distinguished themselves in many ways. They have garnered prizes and awards in competition with the strongest startup companies in life science. Companies such as SAGA Diagnostics, Cellevate and Open Logger are signing more and more customer agreements and are undergoing strong growth. The university spin-off Speximo was acquired by one of the largest players in the cosmetics market. In2Cure is developing pioneering treatments, while Bionamic is developing advanced visualization and evaluation tools.

In all, more than 50 companies have graduated from SmiLe Incubator since its inception 13 years ago. Each member company in the incubator is challenged to fine-tune their business concepts. They receive customized help to grow through guidance by SmiLe coaches, who together have over 250 years of professional experience at large and small companies in the life science industry.

“It is a pleasure to celebrate the accomplishments of these successful entrepreneurs and companies. It is wonderful to see them grow from a single person into entire teams, finding customers and investors while fine-tuning their business ideas and missions. It is an acknowledgement that SmiLe’s model works, from the quality of the companies we admit to the program, to the tools we use to support them, until this day. And best of all – today a new journey begins – the growth journey. Most of our alumni companies remain nearby and we continue the dialogue, though with a slightly different approach,” says Ebba Fåhraeus, CEO of SmiLe Incubator.

Graduating companies:

SAGA Diagnostics – offers methods for early detection and measurement of the amount of tumor DNA with extremely high sensitivity and precision using simple procedures, such as blood tests.

Speximo  develops next generation stabilization and encapsulation technology for developing environmentally sustainable products.

Open Logger – offers smart systems for logging critical parameters from equipment in laboratories and hospitals

In2Cure – develops completely new treatments based on a peptide, which acts on both infection and inflammation in the body

Cellevate – offers more realistic in-vitro models for cell growth for researchers than current models, based on the company’s patented nanofibers

Bionamic – builds customized software for faster and more accurate evaluation of data sets from life science research
